School Uniform Regulations

GENERAL

1. Students should be neat, clean and tidy in appearance. This includes:

  • shirts tucked in except for Summer shirt for boys.
  • top button done up, except for Summer boy’s shirt
  • tie neatly knotted at the collar
  • trousers/skirts waistband at the waist (not the hip)
  • girls not to fold skirts at the waist in order to shorten the length
  • all clothing to be correct size and well fitting.
  • socks pulled up and folded over and not rolled,
  • shoes must be well polished
  • No hat for formal or evening occasions.

2. Full school uniform, sports kit or tracksuit should be worn.

  • no combinations e.g. tracksuit top worn with formal uniform items
  • only prescribed uniform can be worn at any given time

3. All uniform items must be purchased from approved stockists
4. Hats may be worn at break, lunchtime and thereafter if a student is outside a classroom and not taking part in a sporting activity. All hats/caps must be GATEWAY HIGH hats/caps.
5. All clothing should be clearly marked with the student’s initial and surname.
6. Worn-out or torn items of uniform must be replaced.
7. Name badge worn visibly on the chest at all times except when on the field of play for a sport.
8. Only badges awarded by the school can be worn with the uniform.
9. Prescribed school uniform must be worn on all school days, formal functions and fixtures (whether participating or spectating) unless otherwise stipulated.


BOYS’ UNIFORM

Hat

  • Wide-brimmed navy blue hat with GATEWAY logo. (Optional)

Hair/Beards

  • Hair must be kept clean and tidy.
  • Hair is to be kept off the collar and fringes must not reach the eyebrow.
  • Black (curly hair) should be less than ½ a cm long.
  • White (straight hair)should be less than 2 ½ cm
  • Wedges, steps, ponytails, spikes, patterns, table top, shaved partings, shaved heads, afros, overlay, dreadlocks, crown – cut, mohawk, deep-side cut, peeled cut, indenting of hair, bound dyes on the forehead are not allowed.
  • No colorant, dye or additive e.g. “gel” which gives hair an artificial or unnatural look, may be evident.
  • Boys must be clean shaven at all times. No side bands.



FORM ONE TO FOUR

  • Blazer/Jersey
  • Gateway Airforce blue blazer with badge - silver buttons.
  • Airforce blue V-neck sleeveless pullover.
  • Airforce blue V-neck long-sleeved jersey.

Fleece Jacket

  • Navy blue fleece jacket with grey collar

Shirt

  • Shirts to be tucked in at all times

Shorts/Trousers

  • Navy blue shorts (side elastic) with fly, no belt or
  • Navy blue long trousers - no turn-up, black belt (approx. 3 cm wide with plain silver coloured buckle).
  • Should not be baggy. Length to be off the heel.

Tie

  • School tie (red and black stripes)

Socks

  • Plain navy socks
  • When wearing shorts, plain long navy socks are to be worn with garters
  • No sports socks except with sports kit.

Nails

  • Nails to be kept clean and short.
  • No nail vanish.

Shoes

  • Plain black school lace-up shoes
  • No corner, pointed or glass shoes allowed.

Jewellery

  • A plain watch may be worn.
  • Medic Alert bracelet or necklace may be worn.
  • No other jewellery is acceptable.

Scarf

  • Knitted Airforce blue scarf (matching jersey) with two red lines

Gloves

  • Airforce blue gloves (matching jersey) with two red lines

Tracksuit

  • Full track suit must be worn before and after match.
  • School tracksuit to be worn as a full tracksuit only with school regulation sports shirt underneath.
  • May not be worn together with blazer or other uniform items.

Tights

  • Black or white tights (only in stipulated areas)



Sports Kit

Shall be worn in accordance with regulations for each sport

  • Match kit – blue and red shirt
  • Practise kit – white golf shirt with red collar
  • Blue taffeta shorts
  • House vest
  • White ankle socks/school sports socks
  • Training shoes specific to the sport to be worn
  • NO JERSEY
  • Training shoes specific to the sport to be worn.

 

Boys Sports Kit

Swimming kit

  • Blue swimming shorts or team swimming costume.

Rugby shorts

  • Junior rugby: blue rugby shorts
  • Senior rugby: blue shorts
  • 1st Team: white rugby shorts

Cricket

  • Under 14 and 15: white boxer shorts
  • Senior cricket U16 upwards: white cricket longs

Boys Basketball

  • Training Kit
  • Juniors: White golf shirt with red collar, blue shorts.
  • Seniors blue vest, blue shorts
  • Match Kit
  • Blue and red vest, blue shorts and red and blue socks for U14, U15 & U16 and 1st team white socks.

Rugby

  • Training: Blue and red rugby jersey, blue shorts and long red and blue socks
  • Match Kit: same as above.

Boys Tennis

  • Training kit : White golf shirt with red collar, blue shorts
  • Match Kit: Blue and red shirt and blue shorts. U14, U15 & U16, red and blue socks 1st team white socks.

Cricket

  • Training Kit: White golf shirt with red collar, blue shorts
  • Match Kit: U14 & U15, white shorts, white golf shirt with red collar and long white socks U16, white longs.

Swimming

  • School Swimming Trunks

Athletics and Cross Country

  • Training: House colour vest, white golf shirt
  • Match Kit: Blue short and blue and red vest.

GIRLS’ UNIFORM

Form 1-4

Hat

  • Wide-brimmed navy blue cloth hat with GATEWAY logo (optional).

Hair

  • Hair must be kept clean and tidy.
  • Hair must be tied back or drawn into a simple ponytail when it can meet under the chin.
  • Fringe (only with own hair) - off the eyebrow.
  • Small clips must match hair colour
  • Hair bands etc. must be in the school uniform material or of plain white or red material.
  • If two hair bands are worn, they must be of the same colour e.g. red band and red scrutch.
  • Braids, carpet or carrot hairstyle should be without a fringe and should not be too thick (0.n5 cm thick)
  • Braids and extensions
  • Standard length of 30cm may be worn provided beads are not sewn into the hair and provided that it is tied back in a simple ponytail and fits properly under the school hat.
  • Braids to be done right up to the end.
  • No bun
  • No human hair

Banana Plait/Fish plait (French Plait)

  • Only allowed with own hair.
  • No fringe should accompany the hairstyle. (Regular checks to be made to check for tinted/dyed strands)

No

  • No oily perm
  • No s-curl
  • No decorative or loud hairstyles.
  • No pick and drop.
  • No colorant, dye or additive e.g. “gel” which gives hair an artificial or unnatural look may be evident.
  • No highlights.
  • No afro
  • No weaves
  • No bun
  • No trimming of eyebrows
  • No hairstyles using wool or black thread
  • No dread or fashion locks
  • No twist.

Blazer

  • Gateway Airforce blue blazer with badge and silver buttons
  • Airforce blue V-neck sleeveless pullover
  • Airforce blue V-neck long-sleeved jersey.

Blouse

  • Blue regulation blouse.

Navy Fleece Jacket

  • Grey collar

Make up

  • No make-up

Skirts/Trousers

  • Navy Blue Skirt (must touch the floor when kneeling and must be not be too long)
  • Winter trousers, navy blue (optional)
  • Girls wearing long trousers must wear a blazer or fleece jacket.

Navy Blue Blanket:

  • Measurement 75cm x 60 cm..
  • Can only be used indoors and not worn over uniform.
  • Blanket should be kept in school bag if not being used.
  • Blankets which do not meet these requirements will be confiscated.

Nails

  • Nails must be kept clean, filed and short not more than 12mm from the cuticle.
  • No nail polish whatsoever.
  • No artificial nails

Shoes

  • Plain black school lace-up shoes
  • No sports socks except with sports kit

Socks

  • White ankle socks

Tie

  • Red School tie

Piercings

  • Plain sleepers and studs may be worn (one per lower ear lobe).
  • No tongue, nose or tummy (belly) rings.
  • No other piercings
  • No tatooes

Jewellery

  • No jewellery.
  • No bracelets. However Medic Alert bracelet or necklace may be worn.
  • No decorative watches

Scarf

  • Knitted Airforce blue scarf (matching jersey)
  • Knitted white scarf for senior team squad

Gloves

  • Knitted air force blue gloves (matching jersey)
  • The gloves are to be removed by start of first lesson.

PE Kit

  • White hat or cap
  • Blue taffeta shorts
  • Red/White shirt (no buttons)
  • House solid colour polo shirt
  • White ankle sock
  • Trainers
  • Blazers (tennis only)
  • NO JERSEY

Tracksuit

  • School tracksuit to be worn as a full tracksuit only with regulation school sports shirt underneath.
  • May not be worn together with blazer or other uniform items.
  • Shirts must be tucked in.
  • Tracksuit bottom to be worn in Supervised Prep or in class (as stipulated by timetabled arrangements).

Sports Kit

  • In accordance with regulations for each sport AND
  • Full tracksuit to be worn to and from practice sessions and fixtures.
  • Apart from provincial/national representative tracksuits only regulation school sports wear kit is allowed.

Socks

  • White ankle socks


Girls’ Sports Kit

Tennis

  • Training Kit: White golf shirt with red collar, blue shorts
  • Match Kit: Blue and red shirt and blue shorts. U14, U15 & U16 wear red and blue socks 1st team white socks

Volleyball

  • Training Kit: White golf shirt with red collar, blue shorts
  • Match Kit: Blue and red shirt and blue shorts. . U14, U15 & U16 wear red and blue socks 1st team white socks.

Swimming

  • School Costume.

Girls Soccer

  • Training Kit – White golf shirt with red collar, blue shorts
  • Match Kit – Blue and red shirt and blue shorts. All teams to use red and blue long socks



SIXTH FORM UNIFORM

The sixth form uniform is basically the same as for the rest of the school with the following exceptions

 

SIXTH FORM BOYS

  • White regulation shirt
  • White summer shirt
  • School tie.(Red with logo)
  • White short and long sleeved jerseys
  • White scarfs.


SIXTH FORM GIRLS

  • White patterned blouses
  • Flesh coloured stocking to be worn with black court shoe only
  • Black court shoe, no more than 5 cm heel
  • No stiletto
  • Natural hair tied into a bun.


STUDENT LEADERS

  • The Student Leaders’ uniform is basically the same as for the Sixth form with the following exceptions
  • Single red band on each sleeve of blazer
  • Leader’s tie
  • Badge indicating leadership group
  • Braids can be tied into a bun.

Fleece jacket

  • Navy with Red collar.

School Captain

  • Double red band on each sleeve of blazer
  • School captain tie.

Captain/Vice-Captain

  • Name badge labelled Captain/Vice Captain

School Captain

  • Double red band on each sleeve of blazer
  • Captain’s tie.

Captain and Vice-Captain

  • Name badge labelled School Captain/Vice Captain
